Belize IBC Offshore Business

IBC’s (International Business Companies) were granted extended privileges for offshore investing by the Companies Act of 1990, and are based on the best principles from other offshore company judiciaries.

A Belize IBC has many attributes relating to the free international offshore finance, planning and reduction of taxes, and general financial services, together with asset protection.

These include:

  • Tax exemption from all income and dividends.
  • Tax exemption on rent, royalties paid by an international business corporation, together with share capital gains or monetary obligations by a non resident.
  • There are no restrictions on currency.
  • No citizenship demands for directors and meetings of such can be performed in any country and even conducted by proxy.

Together with this, there is a comprehensive list of extra benefits with a Belize IBC, namely:

  • Nominal value liability and exemption from government tax.
  • It is a norm to have low paid capital related to the value of the asset, and only one shareholder is required, which may be another company or trust if desired.
  • No discrimination to any nationality and shareholders enjoy complete anonymity; they can also be changed without filing with the Registrar.
  • No annual report is required, nor is information related to the company ever divulged, other than that it exists.
  • There is a variable structure whereby shares can be bought back as treasury stock.
  • Licenses for foreign exchange or directors are not required.

IBC’s can be inaugurated as limited life companies and public investment companies can do business in Belize with exemption from taxes for up to 30 years duration.

What are the options for qualification?

Basically anyone can incorporate a company as an IBC provided they have a registered office and agent in Belize.

There are just a few provisos:

  1. The IBC does not conduct business with residents of the country, or undertake any banking or insurance interests in the country
  2. They do not own property in Belize
  3. They do not act as another agent for a Belizean IBC.
